Springfield's Southwest Airport (previously known as Commercial Airport) was located on south Chatham Road, on property that is now part of the Westchester Subdivision. The barn of the the farmer who owned the land which is now Happy Landing Farm Subdivision was situated in such a way that planes approaching the airport for landing flew directly over the barn. The farmer had the message "HAPPY LANDING'" written on the barn roof as a greeting to the pilots and visitors to Springfield. The farm with the happy landing barn roof became known to the locals as the Happy Landing Farm.

Now Happy Landing Farm is a 104 acre residential and commercial development located on Springfield's expanding southwest side. It is conveniently positioned off Wabash Avenue just west of Koke Mill Road.
